Navalny (2022)

If you watch only one documentary this year let it be this one. If you find your support for Ukraine flagging, thenlet this bolster your conviction that Putin is a danger to the world and should not be ignored or underestimated. He means to destroy everything and everyone in his path, and this will remind you that no enemy is safe from him. The movie opens with the suggestion that the filmmaker is making a movie for the case of the death of Alexei Navalny, and then proceeds to tell his story. You can immediately see why Putin hates him. The fact that he is handsome, charming, smart, funny, and likable, all things that the Russian leader lacks. He has a beaqutiful family that shares both his bravery and his charming good looks. Then there is the fact that Navalny was extremely popular politically, telling the Russian people and the world about Putin and the oligarchs he abetted taking vast amounts of money for themselves and robbing Russia of those assets. So he goes about trying and nearly succeeding in killing him--and Navalny goes about demonstrating that that is exactly what happened.
